decrease yourself

Yesterday morning I was doing the daily reading from “Common Prayer: Liturgy for Ordinary Radicals,” and one line has become my prayer during all the craziness going on in my life right now.

Lord, we must decrease : so that you might increase.

The more I try to do on my own the more things seem to mess up. There have been times, especially lately, where I have worried myself sick and have been weighed down by so much stress that it feels like I’m going to crumble. I’m learning that when I take a step back and let God take the reins that things go a lot more smooth and things turn out a lot better than I ever could have imagined.

When I decrease God moves in my life in tremendous ways.

When I decrease God turns something ordinary into something extraordinary.

When I decrease God goes so much farther than I ever thought possible.

That’s something I’m willing to say works 100% of the time. When I decrease God increases and it’s amazing.

When I give things over to God, really give them to God, he shows up and his will i what’s done. I will be able to share some stories about this in the coming weeks so stay tuned!

Do you find the same to be true? I would love to hear some stories about God increasing when you actively try to decrease.
